Unusual and unique vintage hand carved growly puppy dog box. Hewn from a single piece of wood. For matches or cigarettes? Or anything you might need stored. Eye-catching work is a dog laying down wide-eyed, ready to pounce and mouth wide open. Past the fierce big teeth and red gums, it is carved out all the way down to the tail in a neat rectangular box. Three letters are carved into the wood on the pup's back - ΣΔΤ - Sorority/Fraternity? Artist signature? Probably made in the 1930s-50s.
Pup measures 6-1/2" long, 1-3/8" wide, and 3" high at the tallest. Box inside measures 5" long, 1-3/8" wide, and about 1-1/2" tall.
Condition is good. The usual scratches and marks of an item of this age, a tiny bit of white missing off some teeth. Displays beautifully. Super cute.
